In Search of the Superfecta

With the advent of the 10 cent superfecta, this exciting exotic wager is now within reach of the average racing fan. Still, the number of different possible finishes involving four horses is staggering. Winning a superfecta wager usually requires buying tickets covering a number of different possibilities. So, unless you have deep pockets, it's important to look for value.

That's what this book is all about. It doesn't attempt to advise you on how to pick horses. However, it tries to show you, based on analysis of more than 24,000 superfecta payoffs, what tracks have been paying off more than the average, the effects of field size and winning favorites on the payoff, and how frequently large payoffs have been occurring. It includes 13 color charts and graphs to illustrate the results of the study, and suggestions on how to use this information to improve your bottom line.

Here's an example:

As you can see, this bar graph shows the average superfecta payoff at 49 different tracks. This data is based on studying more than 24,000 races involving the superfecta wager during the period between April 29, 2010 and March 26, 2011! The book also includes similar graphs showing the maximum and minimum payoffs as well as the range of payoffs (an indicator of how much variation was occurring). It goes further, showing a total of 13 graphs which illustrate the effects of field size, how having a favorite win or place affects payoff, and how frequently large payoffs occur. All these are printed in color, to make it easier to understand the data. It concludes with a summary suggesting how you can use this data to improve your bottom line.

Unfortunately, printing in color makes the book a little expensive for its size (32 pages), but wealth of information it contains makes it a bargain at the special price for SBA fans of only 17.95! A full $5 off its cover price of $22.95.
